Vertical Alignment Documents

The Vertical Alignment Documents present clearly articulated and aligned standards among grade levels using the TEKS statements and student expectations. Each student expectation is very specific, which allows for better tracking of progress across grade levels. This allows for a true alignment between grade levels.

Districts need to implement a monitoring plan in place so that individual teachers cannot easily disregard or replace assigned content.

To be successful, vertical as well as horizontal alignment of student performance expectations is critical. Teachers must fully understand what is to be taught and plan effective instruction.
